SKODA’S NEW CITY car goes on sale today, starting at just over £7.5k.
The Citigo is the Skoda version of the VW Group’s new small car, including the VW up! and SEAT Mii, and will take on rivals like the Toyota IQ.
Available as a three and five-door, with five-door models at a £350 premium, and in base S, mid-spec SE and top-of-the-range Elegance trim there is a varied range as well as a number of personalisation options. The Citigo is also avaliable with the new Personal Infotainment Device, a dash-mounted touchscreen display for sat-nav, blutooth and the trip computer.
The Citigo is available with a 59bhp and 74bhp versions of the 1.0 litre petrol engine mated to the standard five-speed manual gearbox; an automatic is available. The Citigo can also be equipped with GreenTech equipment which includes stop-start and brake energy recuperation technology to save fuel; all of which means an average 68.9mpg and 96g/km CO2 figure.
Despite its small size the Citigo can easily fit four adults, has the largest boot in the class and recently scored a maximum five star Euro NCAP safety rating.
Of more interest to petrolheads is the Citigo Rally Design Concept which was recently unveiled at the Worthersee GTI meeting. Styling changes included large bumpers incorporating a huge front air intake, front splitter and rear diffuser, a rear spoiler, forged 18-inch alloy wheels, a roof air scoop and central exhausts. Although officially only a concept, it could whet the public’s appetite for a Citigo vRS hot hatch.
The Skoda Citigo is on sale now with prices starting at £7,630.
