Toyota enters Britcar 24 hour race with GT86

TOYOTA WILL ENTER this year’s Britcar 24 race at Silverstone with a specially prepared GT86.

Competing in the production class, the car will not be too heavily modified from the 197bhp road car by Toyota GB and GPRM, the team who run Toyota’s British Touring Car Championship Avensis’.

The BTCC link is emphasised by the car’s livery which echos that of the Corolla AE86 that competed in the championship in the 1980’s.

GPRM’s Gary Blackham said, “The new Toyota has all the makings of a great production class racer. We are concentrating our efforts on stripping back the chassis, lightening and strengthening it and of course equipping it with a roll cage and all the other safety gear required, as well as quick-refuelling equipment. Other than that, the GT86 will remain essentially in road car form.”

The Britcar 24 hours takes place at Silverstone on the 22nd and 23rd September.
