NISSAN HAS UNVEILED its new NV200 London ‘Black Cab’ concept.
Based on Nissan’s award winning NV200 van, the taxi version seats five adults with room for luggage too. Its sliding passenger doors improve ease of access and aid safety by ensuring that no doors are opened into the road or the pavement.
The NV200 is expected to cost less than the current TX4 London taxi and the 1.5 litre dci diesel engine is cleaner and more efficient, with a combined 53.3mpg and 138g/km CO2 compared to the TX4’s 35.3mpg and 209g/km CO2. Nissan are also looking into an all-electric e-NV200.
Other features of the NV200 are its ability to carry a wheelchair user, its 25ft turning circle and passenger accessories such as a usb charging point.
Executive Vice President of Nissan, Andy Palmer, said, “The ‘black cab’ is as much a part of the London landscape as Big Ben and, whilst there will always be a place for that familiar silhouette, the Nissan NV200 London Taxi focuses as much attention on its interior as the exterior – a better experience for drivers and passengers.”
