VOLKSWAGEN HAS ANNOUNCED details of the new Golf R convertible.
Powered by the same 2.o litre petrol engine as the R hatchback, the Cabriolet produces 262bhp which is driven through a six-speed DSG gearbox. Unlike the hatch though, the cabriolet is only front-wheel-drive, meaning the 0-62 time is raised from from 5.5 to 6.4 seconds, while top speed is limited to 155mph.
Styling touches are also largely the same as those on the hatch, including; rear diffuser with chrome tipped exhausts, black door mirrors, smoked rear lights, sill extensions, ‘R’ badging and Talledega alloy wheels available in black or silver and as 18 or 19 inchers.
The fabric roof is all-electric and can be lowered in 9.5 seconds and at speeds of up to 18mph. The Golf R Cabriolet is effectively the MK6 Golf’s swansong and will be available to order in the spring priced from £38,77o.
