RENAULTSPORT HAS ITS eyes set on the front-wheel-drive Nurburgring lap record with the new limited edition 275bhp Megane Trophy.
Renault have not confirmed anything, but it is surely no coincidence that just two months after SEAT stole the front-wheel-drive Nurburgring lap record from them, the more powerful Megane 275 Trophy has been announced, along with the hashtag #Under8.
The 10bhp power-hike from the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine comes courtesy of yet more fettling from Renaultsport engineers and a lightweight titanium Akrapovic exhaust system.
It’s not just under the bonnet that things have been improved. The Trophy can be specified with adjustable Öhlins Road and Track dampers, similar to those used on the N4 Megane rally car, and specially developed Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres.
Other competition inspired touches include black 19-inch Speedline Turini alloy wheels, alcantara and leather Recaro seats and an alcantara steering wheel.
The Megane 275 Trophy will make its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, with prices being announced in June and deliveries beginning in October.
