McLAREN HAS ANNOUNCED a special edition 650S to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the F1 GTR’s Le Mans 24 hours victory.
The 1995 Le Mans 24 hours saw McLaren’s F1 GTR take victory. To celebrate, McLaren released five special road-going editions in honour of the five F1s that finished the race, which have since gone on to attain legendary status.
20 years on, McLaren is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the race with 50 Le Mans editions of the 650S, inspired by the F1 GTR.
Designed by McLaren Special Operations and F1 designer Peter Stevens, the 2015 650S Le Mans features several design touches inspired by the F1 GTR including a roof ‘snorkel’ air intake, louvres in the front wings, lightweight five-spoke alloy wheels with McLaren developed Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tyres and the Sarthe Grey metallic paint.
Mechanically, the 650S Le Mans is identical to the standard 650S and retains the 641bhp 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine, but visual changes include a carbon fibre front splitter and rear diffuser, extended side-blades, orange brake callipers, Le Mans logos and black and orange alcantara seats.
50 McLaren 650S Le Mans editions will be available priced at £244,500 with deliveries beginning in mid-2015, with each buyer getting an invite to an exclusive 20th anniversary celebration at the Le Mans circuit.
